Obesity

Obesity (unhealthy fatness) can effect everybody in the world. I think this topic is worth writing. It is a sunny fact that obesity has become a major problem throughout the world, and the number of obese people has dramatically increased. Presently, the issue of obesity has become a serious public health concern.

Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it has an adverse effect on health.

In the United States, for example: there are nine million people who are considered obese and 300,000 die each year for reasons related to obesity, making obesity the second most important cause of death after smoking America.

How do you know if you are obese?

Using the BMI (Body Mass Index) calculation, overweight is between 25 - 30, obese is 30 - 40 and extremely obese is 40 and up. This calculation is a height and weight comparison (BMI = weight in pounds X 705 / height in inches squared). Using body fat analysis is better and for a woman obesity starts about 33% body fat, for a man about 24%. There are numerous ways to calculate body fat. For more information relating to obesity, see the page links, further down this page, listed under Related Questions.
